The smell of frying food usually drifts over to us, which is nice but also makes us quite hungry. Gultekdi is a busy part of the city, and we’ve been here long enough to see the neighborhood change quite a bit. We carry a variety of items, ranging from what we call grit to more traditional gift items. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be very careful about how we arrange things on the shelves. Most of our morning is spent cleaning the front of the shop and making sure the displays aren't too messy. It’s a very hands-on job, and we do everything ourselves without any fancy equipment. We know many of the people who live in the apartments nearby, and they often stop in just to chat for a few minutes. It’s a simple, local business where we don't worry about being perfect. Sometimes we run out of things or the delivery is late, but we just manage as best as we can. We like being part of this community and having a spot right across from a popular eatery. It’s a lot of standing and moving items around, but it’s a good way to spend the day in Gultekdi.
