Mangesh Hair Cutting Salon

I’ve been running this hair cutting salon at 1436 Shukrawar Peth for a long time. It’s right in the heart of old Pune, so the streets are narrow and always full of people. My shop isn’t very big—just a few chairs, some big mirrors, and the tools of the trade. You can hear the snip of scissors and the hum of the trimmers all day long. Most of my customers are men from the neighborhood who have been coming here since they were kids. We talk about the local news or the weather while I work. It’s a simple place with a radio usually playing in the background. The floor gets covered in hair pretty quickly, so I’m always sweeping between customers. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned setup, with the classic barber chairs that have seen better days but are still comfortable. I don’t have a fancy booking system; people just walk in and wait their turn on the bench. Sometimes there’s a bit of a queue on Sunday mornings, but nobody seems to mind too much. It’s a chance for folks to catch up. The building itself is quite old, and the walls are covered with some old photos and calendars. I enjoy the work because it keeps me connected to the community here in Shukrawar Peth. It’s hard work being on your feet all day, but it’s what I know how to do best.
