Maha Baramati Shivar Farmers Producer Company Limited has its home base at Thoptewadi, near Korhalebu in the Baramati area. Vikram Dnyandev Thopate is the one who helps keep all of us organized. The word "Shivar" basically means our fields, and that is really what we are all about at the end of the day. We spend almost all of our time out there in the open, tending to whatever we have planted. We aren't some big city business with shiny floors and fancy suits. Our office is just a simple room in the village where we sit and talk about water, seeds, and the market rates. Baramati is a very big farming area, so there is always a lot of competition and it can get quite stressful for a small farmer. We formed this group so we wouldn't be at the mercy of every middleman who comes along. It is hard to get everyone on the same page sometimes, but we try our best to stick together. We have long days and very short nights during the planting season. We don't have a lot of expensive equipment, just the basics and our own hands. We are just simple people trying to make a decent living for our families. Sometimes the crops fail and we have to start all over, but that is just part of the job.
