You can find us at Swati Abaso Keskar’s place in Mahud B Sangole. It is an open space marked as Kr-32. This is the home of Krishiparivartan Woman Farmer Producercompany Limited. We are a group of women from the Solapur area who decided it was time to take the business side of our farming more seriously. Most of us have spent years working in the fields, but we usually left the selling and the paperwork to others. Now, we are doing it ourselves. It is a bit of a challenge balancing the work at home with the work in the fields and now the work for the company, but we are making it work. We meet at Swati’s place to discuss which crops are doing well and how we can get better deals on the things we need. In Sangole, the water situation is always on our minds, so we talk a lot about that too. We do not have a big office with air conditioning. We just have a quiet spot where we can sit and talk. We started this group because we wanted to have more say in our own lives and our own farms. It is just a bunch of neighbors helping neighbors. We do not use any fancy language or complicated strategies. We just focus on the soil, the seeds, and making sure our families are taken care of.
