Khurana Lassiwale

We are over in Somwar Peth, right on the Banaswadi Main Road in Jai Bharath Nagar. The shop number is 444. Khurana Lassiwale is a place people come to when they are hot and tired from the sun. We have these big wooden churners and heavy brass vessels. Making lassi is about the arm work. You have to keep going until the yogurt gets that thick, frothy top. We don't use many machines here. Most of it is done just like it used to be years ago. The shop stays cool because of the stone floors, which is nice when the sun is beating down on Banaswadi Main Road. We serve the lassi in tall glasses, and we don't skimp on the cream. Sometimes we run out of ice and I have to send my nephew to get more from the block nearby. We have a few benches where people sit and drink slowly. It’s a noisy street with plenty of traffic, but people seem to forget that for a few minutes while they are here. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years. The shop is old and the walls have some cracks, but it doesn't affect the taste of the curd. We don't have a menu card or anything. Everyone knows what we have. It’s just us, the yogurt, and the big metal spoons. If you find Jai Bharath Nagar, you can’t miss the crowd outside.
