About Duhita Vermicompost Product Vermiculture Project – Agriculture & Farming in Pune
Down at Khule Basti on Alandi Road, you can find the Duhita Vermicompost Product Vermiculture Project. We’ve been working on this project for a while now, focusing on making good compost using worms. It’s a messy job sometimes, but it’s very useful for gardens and farms. Fulgaon is where we have our beds set up. We spend most of our time checking on the worms and making sure the organic waste is breaking down like it should. It isn’t the kind of place with a fancy lobby or anything. It’s mostly outdoor work and some sheds. We get a lot of local people coming by asking about how to improve their soil. We show them what we’ve got and explain how the vermicompost works without making it sound too complicated. The smell is something you get used to, though it’s mostly just earthy. We have some bags ready for sale, and some people just bring their own containers. Alandi Road can get busy with trucks, but back where we are, it’s a bit calmer. We started this because we saw a need for better soil options around here. It’s a small operation, just a few of us looking after the piles. We don't use any chemicals, just what nature provides. It’s a slow process, but we aren't in a rush. We just want to produce something that actually helps things grow in the local area. It is a practical way to handle waste.
