We started Khairaidevi Farmer Producer Company because a few of us in Dhumalwadimandede thought it made sense to work together. It gets pretty quiet out here, but there is always something to do in the fields. Most days, you’ll find us talking about the rain or the lack of it, trying to figure out how to get our stuff to the markets without losing too much money. It is hard work, honestly. We aren't big city people with fancy offices. We just have our land and each other. The name comes from our local roots. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, like when a tractor breaks down or the price of seeds goes up again. That is just how life is for us. We spend a lot of time sitting around under the trees after a long shift, just figuring out the next step. Dhumalwadimandede is where we live and where we work. We don't have a big marketing team writing this for us. It is just us, trying to handle the crops and the business side of farming. Some days are better than others. Last year was a bit of a struggle with the dry spell, but we are still here. We share tools and help each other out when someone gets behind. It’s a simple setup. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just want to make sure we can keep farming the way our families have for a long time. It takes a lot of patience to do this year after year.
