We formed this producer company because we saw that individual farmers were getting a bit lost in the shuffle of the big city markets. By coming together, we have a bit more weight to our name. The office isn't much to look at—just a spot to keep our books and meet with the members of the group. We spend most of our time out where the actual crops are. It’s about getting dirty and knowing what the soil is doing. We don't have a mission statement or anything like that. We just want to make sure we don't get cheated when it's time to sell. It is a lot of talking to neighbors and trying to coordinate when everyone is going to harvest. Sometimes it’s a bit chaotic, and we don’t always agree on everything, but we’re all moving toward the same goal of keeping our farms going. It's just a bunch of us trying to make the math work at the end of the month.
