Jean Factory

We have our little shop at Number 1 in the Hari Krishna Complex, right in the middle of the Bhaji Market here in Chandan Nagar. It is a very loud and active place to work every day. You can hear the vegetable sellers shouting their prices and the motorcycles weaving through the crowds outside our door. Inside Jean Factory, things are a bit more focused, though the floor is almost always covered in blue threads and small scraps of denim. We don't have a lot of room, so we have to stack the rolls of fabric wherever they will fit. The machines are old and they make a lot of noise when we are running them full speed. It's dusty work and by the end of the day, our hands are usually stained a bit blue from the dye. We do a lot of basic sewing and fixing for the people who live around here. Sometimes someone will bring in a pair of jeans that are completely falling apart and ask us to save them. We just do what we can. The shop doesn't have air conditioning, so we keep the front door wide open and hope for a breeze. It’s not a fancy place to visit, but it's where we do our work. We usually eat our lunch right at the cutting table. It’s a simple life and we know most of the other shopkeepers around the complex.
