Jayshree Stationery & Gift Shoppy

Down on Chani Road in Dhayari, we’ve got our little shop set up. Jayshree Stationery & Gift Shoppy is where we spend our days. It is a mix of things really, from school notebooks and pens to small gifts for celebrations. I spend a lot of time counting out pencils or stacking the notebooks so the covers don’t get bent. Dhayari is a place where people know each other, so we see the same faces every week. Parents come in with their kids after school, and it gets a bit loud for a while. The shop isn't very wide, so we have to use the height of the walls for storage. I have a tall ladder I use to reach the stuff at the top. Sometimes I find things up there I forgot we had. The lighting inside is just a couple of long tubes that hum a little bit. It’s a simple life running a shop like this. We don’t have a website or anything, just the sign outside on the road. When the rains come, we have to move the displays back from the door so nothing gets wet. It’s a local routine. I sweep the floor, wait for customers, and keep the books. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening. Every now and then, I rearrange the gift section just to change the look of the place. It feels good to see the shop full of items.
