Jayashree Gen Store

Jayashree Gen Store is located in Moshi, which used to be a quiet place but is now getting very crowded. Our store is right on one of the main paths people take. We sell all the basic things you need for a house, like snacks, soap, and grains. I spend most of my day sitting behind the wooden counter. There is a small television in the corner that I keep on just for the news or some music. The shop is filled with the smell of different spices and sometimes the smell of the rain from the street. We have a refrigerator for cold drinks and milk, and it makes a constant buzzing sound that I don't even notice anymore. My family lives nearby, so someone is always dropping in to bring me lunch or just to sit for a bit. We don't have any fancy scanners or computers; we just write everything down in a big ledger book. Sometimes we run out of things and have to wait for the wholesaler to come the next day. The customers are mostly people who live in the new apartments nearby. They are always in a rush, but some still stay to talk about how much Moshi has changed over the years. It’s a simple shop and it keeps us busy from morning until night.
