Jay Bharat Hair Dressers has been sitting on Karve Road in Erandwane for quite some time now. We are right near the Dashabhuja Ganpati Temple, which is a big landmark in Pune. On festival days, the whole area is packed with people, and we can see all the celebrations from our front window. Inside the shop, we have those classic barber chairs that have seen a lot of use over the years. We have big mirrors lining the walls and a shelf full of different combs, scissors, and bottles of hair tonic. The smell of talcum powder and aftershave is always hanging in the air. We aren't a fancy salon with soft music and expensive coffee. We are a traditional hair dresser where people come for a clean cut and a good bit of conversation. We have a small TV in the corner that usually has the news or a cricket match playing. People from the neighborhood have been coming to us since they were kids, and now they bring their own children. It’s a small space, so it can get a bit cramped on weekend mornings when everyone wants a haircut. We just have a couple of fans spinning to keep the air moving. It’s a simple, honest business. We take pride in our scissors and our straight razors. When you sit in our chair, you know you’re getting a service that hasn't changed much in decades. It is just the way we like to do things here.
