Husainbhai Jafferjee

Our shop, Husainbhai Jafferjee, is located down in Raviwar Peth, right below the Muslim Bank on Jangali Maharaj Road. This part of town is always crowded, and you can hear the traffic and people shouting all day long. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and the building itself has a lot of history to it. Inside, it’s a bit dark because we’re on the lower level, but we have enough lights to see what we are doing. We deal with a lot of different items depending on what people are looking for that week. The shelves are packed high, and sometimes only I know where everything is hidden. It’s a local way of doing business, where we talk to the neighbors and handle things one customer at a time. We don’t use any fancy computers to track everything; a lot of it is still done with pen and paper in our ledgers. It might seem old-fashioned to some, but it works for us and our regulars. The Muslim Bank upstairs is a good landmark, so people rarely get lost trying to find us. We open early and stay until the evening, watching the street life of Raviwar Peth go by. It’s a lot of hard work keeping a small business like this going, but we enjoy the routine and the familiar faces that drop in to say hello.
