Gurudattashakti Farmer Producer Company Limited is located in Hastpokhari. It’s a small village in the Ambad taluka of Jalna. We are based at a local residence here. It’s the kind of place where you can hear the birds and the tractors all day. We don’t have a big office building. We just use the space we have to coordinate our farming activities. It’s a group of us who decided that we’d be better off working together than competing. The name comes from our faith and the strength we get from being a community. In Ambad, we mostly deal with the usual crops that grow in this dry climate. It’s hard work and sometimes the returns aren't what we hoped for. But we keep at it because it’s what we know. We don’t have any marketing people or fancy slogans. We just meet up, decide who is doing what, and try to get the best price for our produce. Some days it’s just about helping a neighbor fix a fence or sharing seeds. It’s very informal but we get things done. We’ve all lived here a long time and we know the land like the back of our hands. It’s not always easy, especially when the rain is late, but we have each other. We’re just local farmers trying to make things work in a tough environment.
