Out in Sanaswadi, which is a good distance from Pune on the Nagar Road, Fujifilm Sericol India Pvt Ltd operates from the B U Bhandari Industrial Estate. It is a large estate and we are at plots 10/11. This area has grown so much in the last few years, but it still feels a bit isolated compared to the city. We work with industrial inks and screen printing materials, so our facility is full of large vats and mixing equipment. There is a very specific smell of chemicals and ink that hits you as soon as you walk in. It’s not a bad smell, just the smell of work. Our day involves a lot of measuring and making sure the colors come out exactly as they should. The estate itself is quite organized, but it’s still an industrial zone with trucks coming in and out at all hours. We have a lot of storage space for the drums of ink and the raw materials we need. The staff here is mostly local people who have learned the trade over time. We don’t have a lot of corporate meetings or fancy presentations. Most of the communication happens right on the production floor where the real work is being done. It gets quite hot out here in Sanaswadi, and the dust from the road sometimes finds its way in, but we try to keep the production areas as clean as possible for the sake of the ink. It’s a steady, focused atmosphere.
