You can find us at House Number 1170 in Varvand. That’s in the Daund Taluka, which is part of the Pune district. Fargade Udyog Samuha is just a collection of us locals trying to manage our farming business together. We stay busy with the day-to-day stuff that comes with living in a place like Varvand. Most of the people involved here are from the village or nearby. We don't spend much time in an office; we're usually out where the actual work is happening. The building at 1170 is where we keep our records and some of the tools we use for the fields. It’s a practical setup for us. We grow what the land allows and try to keep our costs down so we don't go under. In Daund, the weather really dictates what we do each week. If it’s dry, we’re worried about irrigation and the wells. If it’s raining too much, we’re worried about the mud and the rot. It’s a constant cycle every year. We don't have a mission statement or any fancy documents. Our goal is just to keep the business running so we can support our families. We talk to each other plainly and settle things over a cup of tea in the evenings. It’s a community effort more than anything else. We’ve been here a long time and plan to stay right here. There’s a lot of history in these fields, and we’re just the latest ones looking after them. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy from sunrise to sunset.
