Deshpande Madhukar S Architect

I’m Madhukar S Deshpande, and I work as an architect in the Swargate area. My office is actually inside my home at Ashrayapts, which is Block No 7, 413 30. It’s a comfortable setup because I can work late into the night when an idea hits me without having to commute. I’ve been doing this for a lot of years now, and my drawing table is covered in layers of old sketches and blueprints. Architecture in a place like Pune is interesting because you have to balance the old ways of building with what people want today. I don’t have a big staff of junior architects; it’s mostly just me doing the drawings and going out to the sites to check on the masons. People come to me when they want a house that actually works for a family, not just something that looks good in a magazine. I spend a lot of time in the Swargate traffic moving between different projects. It’s a lot of talking to contractors and trying to make sure the walls are straight. My neighbors in Ashrayapts know me as the guy who’s always carrying rolls of paper. It’s a quiet life of design and construction. I don’t do much advertising. Usually, someone sees a house I worked on and asks who the architect was. That’s how I’ve kept going all this time. It’s a practical way to run a practice, and it keeps me busy enough.
