Down in Malegaon Bk., near Baramati, we’ve got this group going. It’s Baramati Ekata Farmers Producer Company Limited. Nilesh Murlidhar Bobade lets us use his place at Gat No. 611 for the records and our meetings. We are just farmers from around Pune district. There’s a lot of us working the land here. We decided to stick together because doing things alone was getting harder every year. Costs go up, but what we get for our crops doesn’t always follow. We focus on what grows best in our local soil. It’s a lot of manual work. You won’t see us in suits. Mostly we’re in our work clothes, covered in dust from the fields. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything like that. We just rely on word of mouth and the quality of what we harvest. People in the village know us. We’ve been here a long time. It feels right to have a collective where we can share resources like tools or knowledge about pests. We’re learning as we go. Some things are complicated, like the government regulations, but we figure it out eventually. Nilesh helps keep the papers straight at his house. It’s a practical setup for practical people. We just want to make sure our kids can keep farming if they want to. Life is busy, but we make time for this because it matters for our community and our future. We are just normal people doing our best.
