If you are driving down Sinhagad Road near the Dandekar Bridge, you’ll find Balkrushna Hair Dresses at number 130. We are right opposite the Ramkrushna Math. It’s a very busy part of Pune, especially in the evenings when the traffic picks up. The shop is small and has a bit of an old-fashioned feel to it. We have the classic barber chairs and some posters on the walls that have been there for years. The light coming in from the front door is usually enough during the day. We get a lot of regulars who have been coming to us since they were kids. Now they bring their own children for their first haircuts. It’s a simple routine. We do haircuts and shaves, and that’s about it. There’s no fancy music playing, just the sound of the traffic outside and the occasional conversation. Sometimes people stop in just to say hello on their way to the Math. The floor is tiled and easy to sweep, which is good because there is always hair everywhere. We don’t have an appointment system. You just show up and wait your turn on the wooden bench. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when there are more than three people waiting, but nobody seems to mind. It’s a local business that has been part of the Sinhagad Road community for a long time now. We just do our work and keep things moving.
