B S Furniture is located along Deccan College Road in Yerwada, near Shabalal Baba Durga. The workshop always smells like sawdust and polish, which I guess is expected for a place like this. We’ve been in this spot for a good number of years. It’s not a fancy showroom like the ones you see in the mall. We have our tools laid out and pieces of wood leaning against the walls. Some are finished and some are just starting out. We spend most of our time out back where the air moves better. Yerwada is a busy area, so there’s always people walking by. We know most of the shop owners on this stretch of Deccan College Road. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy frames and sanding down edges until they’re smooth. We don't really bother with big advertisements. Most people hear about us from their neighbors or just see us working when they pass by the Durga. It gets pretty loud with the saws going, but that's just the sound of work. Sometimes we sit on the benches we just finished to have our lunch. It's a practical way to live. We just make stuff that people need for their houses and try to do a decent job of it. That’s how we’ve always done things here. We just hope the rain doesn't leak through the roof this year.
