We are over at Plot Number 4 in Telephone Nagar, specifically S.No.478/1/B. The name Atmanirbhar Shetkari Producer Company Limited sounds a bit formal, but we are just a group of farmers who wanted to stand on our own two feet. For a long time, we felt like we were at the mercy of everyone else—the middleman, the weather, the people selling the supplies. We thought if we got together, we could finally have a bit more control over our own lives. We aren't looking to get rich quick or change the world. We just want to be able to sell our produce for what it’s actually worth. Our place in Telephone Nagar is where we get the paperwork done and talk about our strategies. It’s often a bit messy with papers and samples of grain everywhere. We don't have a lot of time for fancy talk because there is always work waiting for us back at the fields. We have to deal with electricity cuts and pests and all the usual headaches that come with this life. But when we work as a group, we can buy things in bulk and maybe get a better deal on transport. It’s just practical. We’re just regular folks trying to make the farming life work in a world that keeps getting more complicated every day.
