You can find us at shop number eight in Yerwada. It’s a small place, nothing like those big fancy salons you see in the malls these days. We’ve been here in Pune for a long time, watching the streets change around us. The shop has a basic tile floor and those old-fashioned barber chairs that have seen a lot of use over the years. Every morning we sweep up the hair from the day before and get the towels ready for the first customer. It’s a bit noisy because of the traffic outside, but we’re used to it by now. People from around Yerwada come in for a quick trim or a shave before they head to work. We talk about the weather or the local news while we work. It’s a very local vibe here. Sometimes the mirrors get a bit foggy in the monsoon, and we have to keep wiping them down with a cloth. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. You just walk in and wait your turn on the wooden bench against the wall. Usually, there’s an old newspaper lying around for people to read while they wait. The light isn't the best in the back of the shop, but we manage just fine. It’s a steady life. We know most of our customers by name and how they like their hair done. It’s just a simple shop doing simple work every day of the week. We don't close until late evening when the street lights come on.
