Alankar Leather Industries

Alankar Leather Industries is located over on Vikram Sarabhai Road, right inside the Shree Chaitanya State Bank Society in Chinchwad. It’s an area with a lot of movement and different businesses side by side. We work mostly with leather, as you might guess from the name. The smell of the hides is the first thing you notice when you walk into our workspace. We have been doing this for a long time and our fingers have the calluses to prove it. It’s not easy work and it takes a lot of patience to get things looking okay. We have some old sewing machines that make a rhythmic clicking sound all day long. We don't have a showroom with bright lights. Most of our stuff is just packed into boxes ready to be sent out to wherever they need to go. We are just a group of regular people who know how to work with leather. Sometimes the patterns don't line up right and we have to start over, which is frustrating but part of the process. We don't talk much while we work because of the noise from the machines. When the day is over, we lock up the gates and head home just like everyone else on this road. It’s hard work, but it’s honest and it keeps us going. We don't bother with fancy advertising; we just let the work speak for itself through the people who use it.
