Akshay Scrap Center

Akshay Scrap Center is located over on Sri Rama Temple Street in Warje Malwadi. We also have some ties to Murphy Town in Ulsoor, so our address sounds a bit complicated to some people. Mostly, we are here in Warje dealing with scrap metal, old newspapers, and plastic. It’s a messy business, and our yard is always full of piles of things waiting to be sorted. We spend our days weighing materials and moving heavy stuff around. It isn't glamorous work at all. We are usually covered in dust by the end of the day. People from the neighborhood bring us their old appliances or leftover construction bits. We pay a fair price based on the weight and the type of material it is. Sometimes we have to tell people we can't take certain items, which they don't always like. The area near the temple can be quite peaceful in the mornings before the trucks start arriving. We have a small scale that we use for everything. It’s just a few of us working here, along with a couple of guys who help with the heavy lifting. We don't have a mission statement or any fancy slogans. We just collect what people don't want anymore and make sure it gets to the right recycling place. It’s a practical job that keeps the streets a bit cleaner. We've been doing this for a long time.
