Akash Varayati

Akash Varayati is located at 34 Banaswadi Main Road, right in the Subbannapalya area near Vishrantwadi. It’s a busy stretch of road with plenty of shops and people walking by. We opened this place because we wanted something of our own. The shop is filled with all kinds of random things, from kitchen items to small toys. We don’t really have a specific focus; if it’s useful, we probably have it. The shelves are made of wood and they’ve started to sag a little under the weight of the stock. We spend a lot of time cleaning the glass jars on the counter. The traffic outside can be a bit much during the evenings, making it hard to hear customers sometimes. We have a small stool in the corner where we sit when things are quiet. Subbannapalya is a good community and we know most of the people who live on this street. We don't do any big promotions. We just put a sign out front and wait for people to drop in. Sometimes we run out of change and have to run next door to the grocer to swap notes. It’s just the two of us running the show here. We keep it simple and try to be helpful. The shop might look a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is. We just keep working through the week and take a break on Sunday afternoons.
