Air Force

This place is actually a quarter at the Air Force Station in Viman Nagar, Pune. It’s Quarter No 354-F, and the address has that date, 21 March 1966, which is just part of how they identify things around here. Being on an Air Force base means life is a bit different than out in the rest of Pune city. You hear the planes taking off and landing all the time, but you get used to it pretty quickly after a few days. It’s a military environment, so everything is kept very tidy and there’s a lot of security around the gates. We handle things from this location that are related to the station and the people living here. It’s not a commercial shop or a fancy business office. It’s a functional space inside the government quarters. Living and working here, you feel a sense of routine that you don’t get elsewhere. We go about our daily tasks, whether it's paperwork or coordinating bits and pieces for the families on the base. Viman Nagar has grown so much outside the gates, with malls and big buildings popping up everywhere, but inside the station, it stays pretty much the same as it always was. It’s a community of its own. We just do our part to keep things running smoothly within the quarters. It’s a quiet life, mostly, interrupted by the roar of the engines every now and then.
