Our shop is located at 28 Khadki and it is exactly what you would expect from a local place. The name 49 N 99 Shop tells you most of what you need to know about the prices. We have all kinds of small things crammed onto the shelves. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than three people come in at once. We have plastic bins full of household items and toys and little things you didn't know you needed until you saw them. The floor is made of old stone and it is hard to keep it perfectly clean with all the dust from the road outside. We spend a lot of time rearranging the stock because new things arrive almost every week and we have to find a spot for them. Khadki is a lively neighborhood and we see the same faces every day. Children come in after school to look at the trinkets with their spare change. We aren't trying to be a big supermarket. It is just a simple shop where things are cheap and the lightbulbs sometimes flicker if the monsoon is heavy. We sit on plastic stools behind the counter and chat with whoever walks in. It is a good way to spend the day, even if it gets a bit tiring standing up to reach the top shelves for customers.
