Kbf & Kamal Bricks Field

The Kbf & Kamal Bricks Field is located out in Shahipur Handia. It is a pretty straightforward operation where we focus on turning the local earth into something useful. The name is a bit of a mouthful, but most people around Shahipur just call it the brick field. We have a large plot of land where we do everything from digging the clay to firing the final products. It is a very hands-on type of work. We don’t have any fancy management systems; it is mostly just us and the workers keeping an eye on the kilns. The weather in Handia can be unpredictable, and that is our biggest challenge. A heavy downpour can ruin a whole week’s worth of drying bricks if we aren't fast enough with the covers. The fire in the kiln has to be watched day and night, so there is always someone on-site, even in the middle of the night. It is a lonely job sometimes, sitting out there in the dark watching the glow of the furnace. We use simple tools and a lot of muscle to get the job done. The bricks are stacked in high rows that look like red walls across the field. We aren't trying to be the biggest or the most modern; we just want to make sure the batches we burn are solid and ready for use. It is a rugged way to make a living, but it works for us and keeps everyone busy.
