Virendra Singh Smarak Inter College

Virendra Singh Smarak Inter College is located in the Janwamau area of Kalakankar, over here in Pratapgarh. It’s a bit of a rural setting, which gives the students a good, focused place to study away from the really big city noise. We’ve been operating this inter college for many years, named in memory of Virendra Singh. The community around here depends on us for their children's secondary education. Our facilities are simple but they serve the purpose. We have classrooms that get a nice breeze in the summer and enough space for the kids to gather. The staff is mostly from the surrounding villages, so we all know each other. We don't go in for anything flashy. Our focus is just on the daily lessons and making sure the students are prepared for their intermediate exams. There’s a lot of paperwork and administrative stuff that goes on behind the scenes, but the main thing is the teaching. We see the kids grow up from year to year, and that’s the part we like best. We deal with the usual problems like the power going out or needing more chalk, but we make it work. It’s an honest living, and we like being able to provide a place for learning here in this part of Uttar Pradesh. We are just regular people running a school for the local families who have been with us for a long time now and we hope to keep at it.
