Down on 12 Poultry Farm Street in Kariyamanickam, you’ll find us at Ayyappan Import & Export. The street name always gives people a bit of a laugh, but it’s where we’ve set up our shop. It is a dusty area, especially when the wind picks up, and there’s always something happening outside. Our building is quite simple, nothing fancy about it at all. We handle a mix of things coming in and going out. Most of the work involves talking to drivers and checking off items on long lists. We don’t have a professional writer to do our text, so we just say it like it is. The weather here can be quite tough, so we usually have the fans going full blast all day. We handle imports and exports for various goods, and every day brings something a bit different. One day we are worried about shipping costs, and the next we are trying to find more space in the storage area. It’s a lot of coordination and hoping things arrive on time. We’ve been in Kariyamanickam for a good while now and know the local routes well. We don’t use big words or try to sound like a multinational corporation. We are just a group of people working hard to make a living and keep our customers satisfied. It is practical work for practical people, and we like it that way.
