Rajeev Rice Mill

Out here in Naubatpur, right near National Highway 98, is where you’ll find Rajeev Rice Mill. Being so close to the highway makes it easy for the big trucks to pull in, which is good because we move a lot of grain. We’ve been in the Patna district for a long time, and the mill is a bit of a landmark for the locals in the village. It’s a busy place. Between the sound of the engines and the people shouting over the noise, there is never a quiet moment. We aren't much for fancy talk or business suits. Most of the time, we are in our work shirts, covered in a bit of dust from the paddy. We process the rice for the nearby farms and some of the local markets. The heat can get pretty bad in the summer, but we have a big tin roof that helps a bit. My brothers and I run the place, and we’ve learned how to fix most of the problems ourselves. We don't use any high-tech systems, just the same reliable methods we’ve used for years. The ledger is hand-written, and we know our customers by their first names. If you’re driving down the highway, you can usually see the smoke or hear the machines from a distance. It’s a straightforward life, focused on the harvest cycles and making sure the bags are weighed right. We just do our bit here in Naubatpur, keeping the place running six days a week.
