You can find Tirupati Spices over on Khajpura Bailey Road. It is a very busy stretch of road in Patna, and there is always a lot of dust and noise from the passing trucks and rickshaws. Our place is basically filled with big sacks of spices from the floor to the ceiling. The air always smells like cumin, turmeric, and dried chilies, which can make you sneeze if you aren't used to it. We spend the day weighing things out and getting the packets ready. It is a very hands-on job. There isn't any fancy automation; it’s mostly just us moving bags around and making sure the quality looks right. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of spice dust by the end of the day. We have a small counter where people come in, but most of our work happens in the back where the storage is. Bailey Road is constantly under some kind of repair or construction, so getting deliveries in and out can be a bit of a struggle. We’ve been here for a while, and the neighbors know us by the smell of the grinding. It’s a simple operation. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just a few of us making sure the spices are bagged up and sent out to the local markets as quickly as we can manage. It is hot work, especially in the afternoon, but we get it done.
