Damaji Salon

Out here in Mangalvedha, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Damaji Salon is our small shop in this town. We are right in the middle of the local activity, where people know each other by name. The shop is simple, with just the things we need to get the job done. We have a couple of old chairs and some wooden drawers for our equipment. The floor is made of old tile that has faded over the years. In the afternoons, when the sun is high, the shop stays relatively cool compared to the street outside. We often have friends and neighbors just dropping by to sit and talk for a bit, even if they don't need a haircut that day. It’s that kind of place. We use traditional razors and keep a sharp eye on what we’re doing. There is a small television in the corner, but it usually stays off unless there is a cricket match on. The scissors make a rhythmic clicking sound that is probably the most common noise you’ll hear in here. We don't spend money on advertising or fancy decorations. People in Mangalvedha know where to find us when they need a trim. It’s a quiet life, and we like the rhythm of working for the people here. Every day is pretty much the same, and we are okay with that. The Solapur air is dry but we manage fine.
