Ashok Tent House

Ashok Tent House has been in Churighar Bazar for quite a while now. Our address is 19-20 Gole Nimbada, and it's a very busy part of the market. We mostly rent out tents, chairs, and lightings for weddings or other big gatherings. The shop is full of rolls of cloth and metal poles leaning against the walls. It's a bit of a mess sometimes, but we know where everything is. My two sons work with me. We spend a lot of time loading and unloading the truck. The bazar is so narrow that we have to be careful not to hit anyone when we're moving the big poles. When the wedding season starts, we barely get any sleep. We are out in the sun all day setting up the mandaps and making sure the fabric is tied tight. Sometimes the colors of the tents fade because of the harsh sun, so we have to dye them again. We don't have a big office or anything. People come to the shop, we talk about what they need, and we write it down in a big ledger book. It’s a very old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't use any fancy computer programs for our records. If you want to hire us, you just come to the bazar and ask for Ashok. Everyone here knows our shop. It’s hard labor and your back hurts by the end of the day, but it’s a living.
