Rikoi Engineering

Out here in Vasai East, specifically in Geeta Udyog Nagar, you’ll find us at Rikoi Engineering. We are in building number one, right near the range office in Gokhiware. It’s an industrial area, so it’s always a bit loud with machines running around us. We do engineering work. Mostly it is parts and repairs. It’s greasy and very hands-on. Our unit is number two. It’s not a huge factory, but we have the tools we need to get things done. We spend our mornings looking at drawings and the rest of the day getting our hands dirty on the shop floor. Things break down in other factories nearby and they bring them to us for a fix. Or they need something specific made for a new project. We try to get the measurements right the first time because mistakes waste metal. Sometimes a machine acts up and we have to spend hours figuring it out. That's just how it goes in this line of work. The heat in the afternoon can be tough, but the tea stall nearby helps us stay awake. We’ve been in this building for a while now. The neighbors are mostly other workshops and small units. We help each other out with tools or advice sometimes. It’s a community of makers and fixers. We don’t do much talking, mostly just focusing on the lathes and drills. It’s practical work. We finish one job and move to the next. That’s our life at the workshop.
