Rohtas General Store

Rohtas General Store is tucked away in Kanjhawala, and we've been serving the folks around here for a while. It’s a straightforward kind of shop. I don't think making things more complicated than they need to be helps anyone. I wake up, open the shutters, and start checking what needs to be restocked. Most of the items we carry are things people use in their kitchens or bathrooms every single day. I do the ordering, the stocking, and the selling all by myself mostly. The floor is concrete and the shelves are wooden, nothing like those big supermarkets in the city. Kanjhawala is a place where everyone kind of knows each other, so the store is a bit of a meeting point. I hear a lot of news and gossip throughout the day. Some days the weather is bad and nobody comes out, so I just spend time reorganizing the back room. I don’t have a website or any of that stuff. I just rely on people walking through the door. I try to keep my prices fair so people keep coming back. It’s hard work, especially when the heavy sacks of flour arrive and I have to move them. But it’s what I do. I’ve got a small radio that keeps me company when it’s quiet. It’s a simple business for a simple neighborhood. We are just here doing our job every single day.
