Modern Flour Mills Ltd.

This place at B-15, Lawrence Road is where Modern Flour Mills Ltd. operates. It’s an old-school kind of setup. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone like that. Mostly, it’s just the folks who run the machinery and manage the loading. The air in here usually has a bit of a white dust from the flour, which is normal for a mill. We start early in the morning when it’s still a bit quiet on Lawrence Road before the traffic gets bad. By noon, the whole place is humming. We produce quite a bit of flour, and it goes out to different places. We don’t really do fancy branding. We just focus on the bags and making sure the weights are right. Sometimes it gets really hot in the summer months, but we just keep the fans going and get through the shift. It’s a practical business. We’ve stayed in this same spot because it works for us. The neighbors are other industrial businesses, so we all know the deal. If a machine breaks down, we fix it ourselves or call the guy down the street. It’s not a polished operation, but it’s a real one. We aren't interested in being the biggest, just in keeping the mill running and making sure the flour is good quality for whoever buys it. It's a living and it keeps us occupied every day of the week.
