Jatin Furniture House is on Narela Road, right in the Alipur Dayal Market. If you walk through the market, you can probably hear us before you see us. There is almost always the sound of sawing or hammering going on inside. Our shop is where we take wood and turn it into chairs, tables, and beds. It’s a very dusty place because of all the sawdust that flies around when we are cutting. We don’t have a fancy showroom with air conditioning; it’s a workshop where real labor happens. You can see the raw wood stacked up in the back and the finished pieces sitting out front near the road. Alipur Dayal Market is always loud with traffic and other sellers, so we fit right in with the noise. We spend our days measuring twice and cutting once, trying to make things that will last. Sometimes the wood is stubborn, or a joint doesn’t fit perfectly the first time, so we have to fix it. Our hands are usually rough and covered in stains or shavings. It is just the way it is when you make furniture by hand. People from around Narela Road come in to see what we have or to ask for something specific. We just keep our heads down and do the work, day in and day out, in our little corner of the market. It is rewarding to see a pile of wood become a finished chair.
