Up here in Pernem, life moves a little slower than what you see down in the beach areas of Goa. Vidhya Sankul is tucked away here, serving the families who have lived in this part of the north for generations. Our building is a simple one, and we like it that way because it feels like home to the students who come here every day. You won't find any flashy signs or big gates. Instead, there’s just a sense of community. Most of the teachers live nearby, so we often bump into parents at the local market or at the bus stop. We focus on the basics. During the monsoon, the rain hits the roof pretty hard, and we all have to talk a bit louder to be heard, but that’s just part of life here. In the summer, the breeze from the trees helps keep the classrooms from getting too stuffy. We spend our days making sure the kids have their books and that they understand what they’re reading. It’s not a complicated setup. We have a small playground area where the kids play football or just hang out during their lunch hour. If you come by, you’ll probably find us busy with paperwork or fixing a desk. We just want to make sure the kids in Pernem have a steady place to come to every morning and feel safe while they're here with us as they learn what they need for the future.
