Our branch of Deloitte Haskins Sells is located right in the middle of this busy New Delhi neighborhood. It is a tight street. There is always the sound of scooters or people talking outside our windows. The office is really just a functional space where we get the auditing and accounting work done. We have a few computers that are always running and a lot of pens that seem to go missing every other day. There is no lobby with a receptionist. You just walk in and see us working at our desks. We spend the whole day looking at tax laws and balance sheets. It can be quite tiring on the eyes. We make sure to take breaks now and then. The walls are mostly bare, except for a calendar and a clock that ticks quite loudly when the room goes quiet. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because that doesn't help us get the numbers right. Our focus is just on the task at hand. Whether it is a small audit or a bigger financial report, we handle it. We know most of the shopkeepers nearby, and we often get our lunch from the same little stalls every afternoon. It’s a regular job in a regular part of Delhi. We just try to do it right and keep the paperwork moving along until it is time to go home.
