Scan Synthetics Ltd. is located at 3808 Pahari Dhiraj in Chandni Chowk. If you have ever been to Chandni Chowk, you know how narrow and winding the lanes are. Pahari Dhiraj is a busy spot, filled with people moving goods and carts pushed by hand. Our place is mostly full of rolls of fabric and synthetic materials. It is a dusty environment, and the smell of textiles is always in the air. We do not have a fancy office or any padded chairs. We mostly sit on wooden stools or sometimes just on the edge of a packing crate. The light is not great inside because the buildings are so close together, so we have to keep the fluorescent tubes on all day long. Loading and unloading is a big part of what happens here. We have to coordinate with the pullers to get the material through the narrow streets without getting stuck. It is a loud place with people shouting to be heard over the general din of the market. We take our lunch sitting right there among the stock, usually bringing something from home in a steel tiffin. There is a certain rhythm to the chaos of Chandni Chowk, and we have been part of it for long enough that the noise does not even bother us anymore. We just keep track of the yardage and make sure the bundles are tied up tight.
