Plata Arts

You can find us at 1710 in Dariba Kalan. If you know the area, you know it’s famous for silver and jewelry, and it’s always packed with people. Our shop, Plata Arts, is right in the middle of that narrow lane where everyone is walking and carts are being pushed through. It’s a small space, like most of the shops here. We have our displays and the work we do tucked into the corners. It’s been this way for a long time. The street outside is noisy, with people talking and the sound of metalwork coming from the different workshops. We spend most of our time here handling the pieces and talking to people who stop by. It’s not a fancy showroom with air conditioning or anything like that. It’s a traditional spot where the work is the main focus. We have some old wooden counters and shelves that have been here since we opened. Lighting is important for what we do, so we have some bright lamps over the work areas. Dariba Kalan has a lot of history, and we feel like a small part of it. Every day is different depending on who walks through the door. We just keep doing what we know how to do, sitting at our stools and working through the tasks. It’s a tight squeeze sometimes, but it’s our home during the day and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
