Ashok Art Gallery

Ashok Art Gallery is located at A-1 Subhash Nagar, right in the Beri Wala Scooter Market area near the SDM office. It is an interesting spot for an art gallery because the whole street is usually full of people fixing scooters and the smell of oil and grease. But once you step inside our door, it is a whole different world. We have frames leaning against the walls and paintings hanging wherever there is a bit of empty space. It is not a sterile museum type of place; it is more like a working studio where things are constantly being moved around. There is always a bit of dust because of the busy market outside, so we have to clean the glass on the frames pretty often. People who are waiting for their scooters to be repaired sometimes wander in just to look around and escape the noise for a bit. We have a small table where we do the framing work, and there are always bits of wood and wire laying on the floor. It is a bit disorganized, but that is just how we work. We have been in Subhash Nagar for years and have seen the neighborhood change a lot. The gallery is just our way of staying busy and being part of the local scene. It is a simple, creative space tucked away in a very busy, mechanical part of the city.
