Katra Shahanshai is one of those places in Chandni Chowk that feels like it hasn’t changed in decades. Our office, Kamal Agencies, is at 1948, which is a number that is easy to remember. The stairs leading up are narrow and a bit steep, so you have to watch your step. Once you get inside, it’s a bit quieter than the main road, but you can still hear the bells of the rickshaws. We have old wooden desks and metal filing cabinets that have been here since we started. There is no vision statement hanging on the wall. Instead, we have calendars and a few old photos. Working in Chandni Chowk means you have to be patient with the traffic and the noise. We spend our mornings checking the mail and talking to our suppliers. Kamal Agencies is a small operation, just a handful of people making sure orders get filled. We don't have a website with flashy photos. The address 1948 Katra Shahanshai is enough for people to find us. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the lanes a bit muddy, but we still show up and open the shutters. It’s a traditional way of doing things, and we don’t see a reason to change it. We just keep our heads down and handle the daily business as it comes. It’s been that way for a long time and we like it.
