If you have ever been to Chawri Bazar then you know how Ganpati Market is. Indian Tools & Equipments is right at 3598/17 and it is a tight squeeze like everywhere else in this part of town. The lanes are narrow and there is always someone moving a heavy load on a trolley. We have been here in the thick of it for years. The shop is packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of tools and heavy equipment pieces. Half the time we have to move three boxes just to find the one thing a customer is asking for. It is loud and busy from the moment we open the shutters in the morning. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. People come here because they know we are likely to have that one specific wrench or drill bit they can't find anywhere else. The tea stall guy nearby knows our order by heart because we spend half our lives standing on the threshold talking to neighbors and suppliers. It is a chaotic way to work but it is how business happens in Chawri Bazar. We just keep track of things in our heads and on old paper pads. It is honest work and we like being part of the market history. The stairs are steep and the air is full of the smell of metal and old cardboard but it is home to us.
