Kashmere Gate is one of those places that never really stops moving. Our shop is tucked into the Guru Nank Market at 126 E. It’s a tight space and we have motors and heavy parts sitting on the floor everywhere you look. The building is old and you can feel the history of the market in the bricks. We start pretty early here because the deliveries usually show up before the sun is even fully up. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and getting grease under your fingernails. Most of the day is spent talking to mechanics who know exactly what they want. We don't have time for much small talk but we always make sure there is a hot cup of tea for whoever stops by. The Guru Nank Market has its own rhythm and we’ve been part of it for many years now. Our spot at 126 E isn't much to look at but it's where we do all our business. We keep the paperwork in a metal cabinet that's seen better days. The noise from the main road and the metro station nearby is constant but we don't even hear it anymore. It’s just the way things are in this part of Delhi. We just focus on moving the stock and making sure the shop stays open until the last customer leaves. It’s hard work but it’s a good living for us.
