Engineer

I am an engineer living in the village of Baradrone, near Diamond Harbour in West Bengal. It is a bit of a trek from the main city, but I prefer the quiet out here. My work is done right from my home or on-site at various local projects. Being in a place like Baradrone means you have to be practical and resourceful. I handle various engineering tasks that pop up in this part of South 24 Parganas. It’s a lot of walking and talking to people about what they need built or repaired. I don't have a website or a fancy office. Most people just know me by my name and where I live. The air is a bit fresher here than in Kolkata, but the rains can make the roads a mess. I spend my mornings checking on my tools and planning out the day. Sometimes the work takes me closer to the river, other times I'm inland. It’s a mix of different things every week. I’ve lived in West Bengal all my life and I understand how things get done here. It’s about being there and showing up when you say you will. I don't use big words to explain my engineering; I just show people the results. It is a decent way to make a living and I like being my own boss in a small village. I hope to keep doing this for a long time without much change. It suits me fine.
