Pioneer Enterprises

D-173 in the Hosiery Complex is where we spend all our time. Phase II is a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to it, with trucks parked everywhere and people moving boxes across the road. Pioneer Enterprises is just one of many units here, but we have our own way of doing things. The floor is usually dusty no matter how much we sweep because of all the activity nearby. We don’t have any fancy decorations on the walls, just some calendars and a few lists pinned up to keep track of what needs to be done. The work is steady, and there’s always something that needs packing or checking. We mostly use simple tools and our hands to get the job finished. During the summer, the tin roof gets quite hot, so we try to get the heavy work done early in the morning. Everyone knows everyone else around here, so you’ll often see people from the neighboring units popping their heads in to say hello or borrow something. It’s a practical kind of place. We don’t worry about how things look as long as we can find what we need and the orders are ready on time. By the time we head home, the whole complex is finally starting to quiet down a little bit, which is a nice change from the daytime rush we deal with every day.
