We are located at D-41 in the Hosiery Complex Phase-ii Extension. It is an industrial area, so it is mostly warehouses and factories around us. Pacific Garments Pvt. Ltd. is a straightforward operation. We have a large open floor where the machines are lined up in rows. The lighting is fluorescent and the walls are a plain off-white that has seen better days. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby for visitors. If you come by, you will likely find us middle-deep in piles of knit fabric or checking the tension on the stitching machines. It is a place of work, plain and simple. We get the raw materials delivered on big trucks that sometimes struggle to navigate the narrow lanes of the extension. We have to go out and help the drivers back in most of the time. The work is repetitive and can be tiring, but there is a certain rhythm to it that we all appreciate. During the monsoon, the sound of the rain on the metal roof is so loud we can barely hear each other speak. We just keep our heads down and continue with the sewing and the packing. It is not a glamorous job, but it is steady. We make sure the bundles are tied tight and labeled clearly before they go out. That is really all there is to our day-to-day life here.
