Indo British Garments

Our place is on Plot No. 23 in Sector 24, and it’s where we do all the work for Indo British Garments. It’s an industrial area, so don’t expect a shiny storefront with big windows. It’s a functional space filled with sewing machines, large cutting tables, and stacks of fabric everywhere you look. We spend the whole day listening to the rhythmic clicking of needles and the whirring of the motors. It gets pretty loud when everyone is working at once. There’s always a lot of thread on the floor and scraps of cloth tucked into corners. We’ve got a few people who have been with us for years, and they can sew almost anything you put in front of them. The light in the afternoon comes through the high windows and hits the dust motes, which is actually quite nice if you stop to look. Most of the time, we’re too busy checking measurements or making sure the seams are straight to notice. We handle a lot of different orders, and some days are much more hectic than others. When a big shipment is due, we might stay late and order some food to the plot. It’s not a glamorous life, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a finished pile of garments boxed up and ready to go. The neighborhood is mostly other small factories and warehouses, so everyone is pretty much doing the same thing. It feels like a community of makers.
